Dr. Sadanand Date, an IPS officer from the 1990 batch, appointed as the head of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), is renowned for his no-nonsense demeanor and impeccable reputation. He distinguished himself during the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai, demonstrating bravery and quick thinking that led to the successful rescue of hostages at the Cama and Albless Hospital for women and children. In recognition of his valor, he was awarded the President’s Police Medal for Gallantry.
Currently serving as the chief of the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), Date has held several key positions throughout his career. Notably, he was the inaugural Commissioner of the newly formed Mira Bhayandar Vasai Virar (MBVV) Police Commissionerate in 2020 and served as Joint Commissioner of Police for Law and Order and later the Crime Branch in Mumbai.

When pressured by a powerful minister to appoint an incompetent officer as a police station in-charge, Date stood firm, insisting on merit-based decisions and refusing to compromise.
