New Delhi: Caretaker Prime Minister Narendra Modi will invite leaders from neighboring countries, including Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, and Mauritius, to his swearing-in ceremony on June 8.

Modi has already invited Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who accepted the invitation during a congratulatory phone call on the BJP-led NDA’s electoral victory. The Sri Lankan President’s Media Division confirmed the invitation in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

Modi also extended an invitation to Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who accepted according to sources cited by PTI. Additionally, invitations will be sent to Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay, Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Jugnauth, and Nepalese Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on June 6.

Modi is set to begin his unprecedented third consecutive term as prime minister after the BJP-led NDA secured 293 seats in the Lok Sabha elections, surpassing the 272-seat majority threshold with support from allies like the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Janata Dal-United (JDU). The swearing-in ceremony is expected to take place on June 8.

Historically, Modi’s previous swearing-in ceremonies saw attendance from SAARC leaders in 2014 and BIMSTEC leaders in 2019.
