Business News: Anupam Mittal, Founder and CEO of People Group, recently shared an inspiring story about his journey from being a multi-millionaire in his early 20s to losing everything, only to take a bold gamble on a venture that would become Shaadi.com.
In a viral LinkedIn post, Mittal reminisced about the early days of his entrepreneurial journey and revealed that Shaadi.com was his “all-or-nothing” investment. After achieving immense success as part of MicroStrategy, which reached a $40 billion valuation, Mittal’s fortunes quickly reversed when the dot-com bubble burst, leaving him in heavy debt.
By 2003, Mittal returned to India with nothing but memories of past successes and failures. Undeterred, he decided to start another dot-com venture, this time with severe financial constraints—only $30,000 left after buying the Shaadi.com domain for $25,000. Despite skepticism and criticism, Mittal’s bold decision paid off.
Reflecting on his journey, Mittal emphasized that it was never about the money but proving to himself that his entrepreneurial spirit was resilient, not tied to one success or failure. He continues to apply this mindset to his endeavors today.
In his post, Mittal encouraged others to embrace risk and maintain confidence in themselves, stating, “Success isn’t about going along with the popular opinion—it’s about taking a different path and hopefully being right. To all risk-taking professionals and founders, keep backing yourself. The game isn’t over until you win.”
