Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) has proposed four new metro projects to the central government, totaling 91 km in length and including new metro services in Vadodara and Rajkot. The proposal also includes a 7.56 km circular metro route in GIFT City and a dedicated track connecting the airport to the NaMo Stadium Metro station. These projects are estimated to cost Rs 24,555 crore.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Gandhinagar-Motera-Thaltej metro route from Sector-1 station on Monday, extending Ahmedabad’s metro service to Gandhinagar and covering both the eastern and western parts of the city. Following this, preparations for metro services in Rajkot and Vadodara will begin. In GIFT City, the circular route will enhance internal connectivity.

Pushkar Singla, Chief General Manager of GMRC, confirmed that the proposal has been submitted to the central government. Upon approval, construction of the 90.81 km of new metro tracks will start.

For Vadodara, a 39.10 km route is planned, estimated at Rs 10,438 crore. Rajkot’s proposed route will cover 37.80 km at a cost of Rs 10,214 crore. The 7.56 km circular route in GIFT City is projected to cost Rs 2,023 crore, and the 5.56 km track connecting Ahmedabad Airport is estimated at Rs 1,879 crore.

On September 16, PM Modi will arrive at the newly built Sector-1 metro station at 1:30 PM and travel by metro to GIFT City, where he will interact with citizens at Raysan station and meet financial and business leaders.

Later, he will inaugurate the “Gujarat 4th Global Renewable Energy Investment Meet and Expo (RE-Invest 2024)” at Mahatma Mandir and then travel by helicopter to GMDC Ground near Gujarat University in Ahmedabad for various ceremonies, ensuring security and minimizing public inconvenience.
