India-US Dialogue: U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, highlighting that India and the U.S. are collaborating to address both regional and global challenges.

This marks Jaishankar’s first visit to the U.S. since Prime Minister Narendra Modi secured a third term in office. After the meeting, Blinken emphasized the partnership between the two nations, stating, “The U.S. and India are working together on regional and global issues. Minister Jaishankar and I discussed our ongoing cooperation on the climate crisis and efforts to enhance regional security and prosperity.”

Blinken also acknowledged Modi’s visit to Ukraine in August, reiterating the importance of achieving a “just and lasting peace” for Ukraine, according to U.S. State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller.

Blinken remarked on the positive rapport between Modi and U.S. President Joe Biden, noting that it reflects the significance both countries place on their bilateral relationship and growing cooperation in critical areas like space, semiconductors, and clean energy. “Following the UN General Assembly and our recent QUAD and bilateral meetings, this is an excellent opportunity to take stock of our collaboration, which benefits both our nations and contributes positively to the world,” Blinken added.

Jaishankar expressed his satisfaction with the talks, saying he was “delighted” to meet with Blinken in Washington. He referenced Modi’s recent bilateral discussions with Biden during the Prime Minister’s visit to the U.S., highlighting the follow-up on topics discussed in the Delaware bilateral and QUAD meetings. The talks also covered strengthening bilateral ties, the situation in West Asia, developments in the Indian subcontinent, the Indo-Pacific, and Ukraine.

The U.S. State Department further noted that both sides discussed their commitment to deepening bilateral relations, addressing regional and global challenges, and enhancing cooperation in critical and emerging technologies. During a subsequent discussion at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Jaishankar mentioned, “We have made significant progress since our last meeting, but global issues remain on the agenda, including recent developments discussed today.”
