Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Regional Transport Office (RTO) has suspended Rapido’s services for 30 days, citing regulatory violations following multiple complaints from rickshaw associations. Despite being issued multiple notices seeking an explanation, Rapido failed to respond.
According to the Aggregator Rules 2020, two-wheelers used for commercial passenger services must have yellow license plates and valid insurance. Rapido was found to have violated both requirements.
As bike services gained popularity, auto unions raised concerns about these violations with the RTO.
J.J. Patel, an RTO official, explained, “Rapido was issued an aggregator license only for three-wheeler auto-rickshaws. However, they violated the rules by using private two-wheelers through their app. These vehicles continued operating even after their documents expired, compromising passenger safety. Therefore, we decided to suspend their services for 30 days. If violations persist, legal action will follow.”
Patel further warned, “Repeated violations could result in the permanent cancellation of their license.”
