US Deports Over 250 Indian Illegal Immigrants, Including 30-40 Gujaratis
A US military aircraft carrying more than 250 illegal immigrants from India has departed from Texas and is en route to India. Sources indicate that 30 to 40 Gujaratis are among the deportees. The flight is expected to land at either Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport or Amritsar Airport.
Gujaratis Among the Deportees
According to sources, the passengers include two individuals from Ahmedabad, 12 each from Mehsana and Gandhinagar, four from Surat, and one each from Kheda, Vadodara, and Patan.
A senior Gujarat police official informed Mirror that all deportees will be brought back to Gujarat for further investigation. “We will investigate their transit routes and identify the agents responsible for facilitating their illegal entry into the US. As they are victims of human trafficking, we will handle the matter in accordance with the law,” the official stated.
Trump’s Immigration Crackdown
The deportations come in the wake of Donald Trump’s assumption of office as the 47th US President on January 20, 2025. Reports reveal that out of 41,330 Gujaratis who illegally entered the US, 5,340 were granted asylum under the ‘Asylum Act.’ The rest, including those on this flight, are being deported. The first deportation flight departed from Texas on Tuesday.
Deportees were issued one-time travel visas. Upon landing, airline staff will collect their boarding passes, passports (if available), tickets, and travel visas to submit to immigration authorities. Detailed information about the deportees has been shared with special branches and operational units in their respective cities and districts.
Rising Cases of Illegal Immigration
Each year, thousands of Gujaratis attempt illegal crossings at the US-Canada and US-Mexico borders in search of better opportunities. Many are caught, while others tragically lose their lives during these perilous journeys.
Widening Human Smuggling Probe
Gujarat police are intensifying their investigations into illegal immigration cases. In December 2023, French authorities grounded a chartered flight at Vatry Airport carrying over 60 illegal Gujarati immigrants. The Gujarat CID Crime division has charged 14 human smugglers, with multiple arrests made as part of the ongoing investigation.
