SAMBALPUR: The Prime Minister expressed that the 96-year-old BJP leader embraced the responsibility of enhancing inclusivity in Indian democracy by fostering a connection between the people and the ideology of nationalism.

Hours after revealing the government’s decision to confer the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, upon BJP veteran and former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that this recognition acknowledges Advani’s invaluable contribution to the nation’s service. Speaking at a public gathering, Modi asserted that this honor extends beyond a single political party, symbolizing appreciation for the dedicated activist who played a pivotal role in strengthening democracy and building the world’s largest political party.

“This honor is a tribute to the activist who, starting from a party with only two MPs, worked tirelessly to make it the largest party in the world, ultimately fortifying democracy,” Modi declared to a massive audience at Remed ground in Sambalpur. Reflecting on the challenging times when the BJP faced isolation, Modi credited Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Advani for their unwavering commitment in overcoming adversity and establishing the party as a significant political force in the country.

Commending Advani’s pivotal role in liberating the country from the dominance of a single party and the dynastic system, the Prime Minister highlighted that the 96-year-old BJP leader embraced the challenge of fostering a more inclusive Indian democracy. By connecting people with the ideology of nationalism, Advani aimed to strengthen the democratic fabric of the nation.

“We are now witnessing the outcomes of his dedicated efforts. I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Advani ji for his significant contributions to the nation, and I wish him a long and healthy life,” the Prime Minister expressed.

Earlier, while addressing students at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Sambalpur, after inaugurating its new campus, the Prime Minister acknowledged Advani’s unparalleled contributions during his roles as the Deputy Prime Minister, Home Minister, and Information and Broadcasting Minister, along with his decades of experience as a distinguished Member of Parliament.

“Bestowing the Bharat Ratna upon Advani ji is a symbol that the nation eternally recognizes the unwavering commitment of individuals who dedicate their lives in service to it,” stated the Prime Minister.

Expressing gratitude for the affection, blessings, and guidance received from Advani, the Prime Minister acknowledged his good fortune and extended congratulations on behalf of all citizens.
