The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) on Monday said it has started oil production from its flagship deep-sea project in Krishna Godavari basin in Bay of Bengal, which will help reverse years of decline in output.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated the commencement of oil production from ONGC‘s flagship deep-sea project in the Krishna Godavari basin, emphasizing its significance in India’s energy journey and the mission for an ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat‘ (self-reliant India). Oil Minister Hardeep Singh Puri shared the news on X, highlighting that the first oil production has started from the complex and challenging deepwater KG-DWN-98/2 Block off the coast of the Bay of Bengal. The production is expected to reach 45,000 barrels per day and over 10 million cubic meters of gas per day, contributing significantly to India’s energy needs. Prime Minister Modi acknowledged this achievement as a remarkable step, emphasizing its positive impact on the economy.
