Tata Motors: Tata Motors’ Sanand Plant in Gujarat, India, marked a noteworthy achievement by reaching the production milestone of 1 million cars. Established around 14 years ago to manufacture small cars, the plant has become a key facility for producing electric vehicles (EVs) and factory-fitted compressed natural gas (CNG) cars. The Sanand-1 plant, according to Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicle and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, accounts for 20% of the company’s total car production.

Production Evolution
The Sanand-1 plant initiated operations in January 2010, primarily concentrating on small car production. Over the years, it has transformed into a facility producing petrol, CNG, and electric powertrains. Despite discontinuing the production of diesel cars, the plant has augmented its installed capacity from 1.35 lakh cars in 2010 to 1.9 lakh cars presently.
Current Production Mix
The plant’s current powertrain mix comprises 40% electric and petrol each, and 20% CNG.
Green Initiatives
Tata Motors is dedicated to enhancing the environmental sustainability of its operations. Around 50% of the power consumed in Sanand-1’s operations is sourced from renewable sources, with plans to achieve 100% green energy usage within the next three years.
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)
The company has undertaken initiatives in over 68 villages around the plant, emphasizing projects such as constructing toilets, empowering women through skill development, and promoting the education of girl children.
Future Plans
Tata Motors envisions equipping the plant to manufacture larger cars. The company aims to ensure the plant’s flexibility to produce cars of any size, mitigating vulnerability to shifts in market demand.

Tata Motors is gearing up to reveal its international vision strategy, with a heightened focus on aggressively entering international markets, particularly emphasizing enhanced safety features and electric cars.
