Sundar Pichai: In a major boost to India’s technology sector, Google and Nvidia have unveiled plans to strengthen their engagement in the country, particularly in artificial intelligence (AI). The announcements followed a meeting between Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his visit to the United States.
The meeting, part of Modi’s three-day trip, focused on advanced technologies such as AI, quantum computing, and semiconductors. Both Pichai and Huang praised Modi’s “Digital India” vision and his emphasis on using AI to transform key sectors like healthcare, education, and agriculture.
Pichai highlighted PM Modi’s commitment to leveraging AI for societal benefits, stating that Google is committed to increasing its AI investments in India. He emphasized the company’s “Make in India” and “Design in India” initiatives, and Google’s focus on developing AI solutions tailored to India’s specific needs.
Similarly, Huang pointed to India’s vast talent pool and AI’s potential in the country. Nvidia, he said, will deepen its partnerships in India, particularly in scaling AI infrastructure. He also noted that Nvidia has collaborated with India’s academic institutions, including establishing AI Centers of Excellence at every Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).
Both CEOs acknowledged PM Modi’s keen interest in AI and his vision for harnessing its transformative power to benefit India.
