Business News: Google took action to disable the human image generation capabilities of its Gemini chatbot after Sundar Pichai deemed the mistake “completely unacceptable.”

Amid the controversy surrounding Google’s AI chatbot Gemini, accused of being “racist” for refusing to generate images of white people and portraying historical figures originally white as people of color, CEO Sundar Pichai is facing calls to resign. Google disabled Gemini’s human image generation capabilities, and Pichai described the mistake as “completely unacceptable.” Calls for Pichai’s resignation escalated, according to a Business Insider report.

Analysts Ben Thompson and Mark Shmulik suggested that changes were necessary at Google, potentially including the replacement of CEO Sundar Pichai, according to the report. Ben Thompson emphasized the need to address past issues, while Mark Shmulik expressed doubts about Sundar Pichai’s suitability for guiding Google in the future.

Ben Thompson stated that Google required a “transformation,” indicating the need to remove individuals, including CEO Sundar Pichai, who allowed previous issues to persist and cause problems.

Mark Shmulik expressed in a note, “The most recent saga only further raises increasingly louder questions around whether this is the right management team to guide Google into this next era.”

The criticism of Google‘s Gemini escalated as users pointed out the chatbot’s generation of historically inaccurate images and accused it of being “too woke,” “racist,” and providing incorrect details about “white people.”

Google responded to the complaints, stating, “While we do this, we’re going to pause the image generation of people and will re-release an improved version soon.” Sundar Pichai acknowledged that the company “got it wrong” and is actively working on a solution.
