Bhaiyya Ji Review: Who doesn’t enjoy a good melodrama? Especially if led by Manoj Bajpayee, an actor renowned for his strong performances. However, his new film, ‘Bhaiyya Ji’, feels like a vacation project where he channels Bhiku Mhatre from ‘Satya’ into outlandish action.

Bhaiyya Ji, aka Ram Charan (played by Bajpayee), is a former vigilante who swears off violence after his father is killed in a gang war. But when his younger stepbrother (Jatin Goswani) is murdered by an arrogant father-son duo in Delhi, Ram Charan reclaims his title and returns to his violent ways.

It seems Bajpayee enjoyed performing the over-the-top action scenes. The film adopts the Telugu mass hero style, complete with exaggerated dialogues and slow-motion shots. Director Apoorv, who previously worked with Bajpayee on ‘Banda’, attempts to give him a heroic treatment, but it falls flat, turning even the most emotional scenes into unintentional comedy.

Bajpayee fully embraces the mediocre script, portraying Ram Charan with the needed abandonment to make it believable. Despite being lean and injured, his character convincingly performs incredible feats, simply because it’s Bajpayee. However, the film’s entry-level VFX are inexcusable.

The dialogues, seemingly lifted from a Telugu film, add to the absurdity. For instance, a line like “Yeh Robinhood nahi, uska baap hai” triggers laughter in the theatre due to its ridiculousness.

The film starts with a promising storyline but quickly loses momentum. It feels like the makers resorted to ChatGPT to finish the script.

Some of the funniest lines come from Vipin Sharma, who plays a corrupt cop. Yet, these moments aren’t enough to make you root for any character. The film remains outdated and melodramatic, with no redemptive arc.

‘Bhaiyya Ji’ is now in theatres.
