    Grammy Glory for India: Shankar Mahadevan and Zakir Hussain Triumph with ‘This Moment’

Additionally, Zakir Hussain celebrated a Grammy win in the Best Global Music Performance category for ‘Pashto,’ a collaboration with Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer, featuring Rakesh Chaurasia.

    At the premiere ceremony of the 66th Annual Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles, California, US, Zakir Hussain attained the Best Global Music Performance Grammy for his noteworthy contribution to “Pashto,” a collaborative piece with Bela Fleck and Edgar Meyer, featuring Rakesh Chaurasia.

    Remarkably, Zakir Hussain‘s illustrious career now boasts three GRAMMY wins, showcasing his exceptional musical prowess. Additionally, virtuoso flute player Rakesh Chaurasia celebrated his achievements with a total of two Grammy victories, marking a significant milestone in his career.

    In a post shared on X (the platform not specified), the Grammys congratulated the winners of the Best Global Music Album, recognizing “This Moment” by Shakti with the caption, “Congrats Best Global Music Album winner – ‘This Moment‘ Shakti. #GRAMMYs.”

    In a post on X, Indian musical composer Ricky Kej celebrated the victory of Indian artists at the Grammys, particularly highlighting the historic achievement of Ustad Zakir Hussain winning three Grammys in one night. Ricky Kej expressed his joy by stating, “Ustad Zakir Hussain, the living legend, creates history by winning 3 Grammys in one night!!! Rakesh Chaurasia wins 2!! .. and I am blessed to witness it.”

    Shankar Mahadevan, representing Shakti, triumphed at the Grammys, securing the award for Best Global Music Album for the acclaimed album “This Moment.”

    In a post, Ricky Kej expressed his excitement, stating, “SHAKTI wins a GRAMMY! Through this album, 4 brilliant Indian musicians win Grammys!! Just amazing. India is shining in every direction. Shankar Mahadevan, Selvaganesh Vinayakram, Ganesh Rajagopalan, Ustad Zakhir Hussain. Ustad Zakhir Hussain won a second Grammy along with virtuoso flute player Rakesh Chaurasia. Brilliant!”

    The mentioned artists were nominated in the Grammy Awards alongside fellow nominees such as Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido. The 66th Annual Grammy Awards for 2024 were held in Los Angeles.

    The album in contention, ‘This Moment,’ features eight songs created by a talented ensemble, including John McLaughlin (guitar, guitar synth), Zakir Hussain (tabla), Shankar Mahadevan (vocalist), V Selvaganesh (percussionist), and Ganesh Rajagopalan (violinist).

    In addition, Dua Lipa opened the show with a dynamic medley that included a preview of her upcoming single “Training Season,” followed by her latest release, “Houdini,” and concluded with her popular disco-pop track “Dance the Night” from the hit “Barbie.”

    The star-studded lineup featured captivating performances by renowned artists such as Billy Joel, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, Burna Boy, Travis Scott, and marked a historic debut Grammys performance by Joni Mitchell.

    Phoebe Bridgers emerged as an early standout at the Grammys, clinching four trophies even before the main telecast. At the Premiere Ceremony, she, along with her boygenius bandmates, infused infectious energy into the event.

    Killer Mike, on the other hand, swiftly secured three awards on Sunday night. However, there was an unexpected turn of events as he found himself in police custody before the commencement of the main Grammys ceremony. The reasons for his detention were not immediately disclosed.

    The rapper achieved a significant milestone by winning his first Grammy in 21 years. The accolade for Best Rap Performance went to Killer Mike featuring André 3000, Future, and Eryn Allen Kane for “Scientists & Engineers.” Shortly thereafter, they secured another win for “Best Rap Song.” Adding to the triumph, Killer Mike also claimed the award for Best Rap Album for “Michael,” joyfully exclaiming, “It is a sweep! It is a sweep!”
