    Tragedy Strikes: 12 Lives Lost in Bus Accident in Chhattisgarh’s Durg

    Durg: An official confirmed that a bus accident in the Kumhari area of the Durg district resulted in the loss of lives of at least 12 passengers, with 14 others sustaining injuries as the bus overturned and plunged into a ditch.

    Durg Collector Richa Prakash Choudhary provided details of the incident, which occurred at 8:30 pm on Tuesday, noting that 12 passengers were killed immediately, and 14 others suffered severe injuries when a bus transporting workers veered into a ditch in Durg.

    Choudhary reported that around 8:30 pm, a bus transporting laborers from the Kedia Distillery met with an accident near Kumhari, causing the tragic demise of roughly 12 individuals. Additionally, 14 others sustained injuries and were subsequently admitted to a hospital for treatment.

    In a statement posted on his official social media handle, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his heartfelt condolences for the casualties of the bus accident in Durg, Chhattisgarh. He conveyed his sympathy to those who lost their loved ones and wished for the swift recovery of the injured. PM Modi also assured that under the guidance of the state government, the local administration is actively involved in providing assistance to the victims in every possible manner.

    President Droupadi Murmu expressed her sorrow and condolences for the victims of the bus accident in Durg district, Chhattisgarh, through a post on X. She conveyed her heartfelt sympathy to all the bereaved families and wished for the swift recovery of those injured in the tragic incident.

    Expressing deep sorrow over the incident, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai shared his condolences via his official X handle. He conveyed his sadness upon learning about the bus accident involving employees of a private firm near Kumhari in Durg.

    “I also received the distressing news that 11 of the employees tragically lost their lives in the accident,” the tweet continued.

    “I pray to the Almighty to grant peace to the departed souls and provide strength to the grieving families. Adequate arrangements have been made for the treatment of the injured employees. I wish them a swift recovery.”

    Chhattisgarh Deputy CM Vijay Sharma visited the victims of the bus accident and expressed his sorrow, labeling the incident as “unfortunate”. Sharma remarked, “Whatever happened is unfortunate. All of them were laborers of the Kedia Distillery and were leaving on a bus when the accident took place. On both sides of the road, there are 20-foot-deep ditches… they have been leaving at this hour for around 20 years now but today the bus slipped and fell in the ditch. One patient also said that the headlights of the bus were not switched on which caused the accident.”
