Ahmedabad: The hospitality scene in the twin cities of Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar is poised for a luxurious transformation. Over the next five years, five new high-end properties will debut, adding more than 1,200 rooms to the cities’ opulent accommodations. Renowned brands such as St Regis, JW Marriott, Hyatt, and others are expected to change the skyline and redefine luxury stays.
Marriott International’s luxury brand, St Regis, is likely to be established on the western bank of the Sabarmati Riverfront, according to sources close to the development. “Marriott, an American multinational company, is in advanced discussions with local and state authorities to establish this upscale hotel,” said the source.
Currently, the twin cities boast over 6,500 five-star hotel rooms offered by major hospitality brands like Marriott, ITC, InterContinental, Hyatt, Taj, Accor, Radisson Blu, Leela, and Hilton. Additionally, Marriott International plans to launch JW Marriott at the Adani Shantigram campus along SG Highway in Ahmedabad. “Discussions between Marriott Group and developers are nearing completion. As this is a greenfield project, construction is expected to start soon,” a source revealed.
Gujarat’s growth and the presence of GIFT City are driving new projects
Marriott’s Courtyard by Marriott property in Ramdevnagar is undergoing renovations and will be rebranded as Le Meridien. While Marriott International declined to comment on its launch plans, Hyatt Hotels Corporation is set to launch a property in GIFT City. A Gandhinagar-based developer secured the tender to build this five-star hotel project. “The project will encompass about 500,000 square feet of built-up area, including hotel and commercial spaces. It will be a 30-floor building with approximately 250 rooms, requiring an investment of around Rs 650 crore,” an insider revealed. Advanced discussions are ongoing between Hyatt and the developer, the source added. This new hotel will join the Grand Mercure by Accor Hotels and the GIFT City Club as the third major property in GIFT City.
“Several hotel projects are in the pipeline due to Gujarat’s industrial prowess, the presence of GIFT City, and the world’s largest cricket stadium,” said Narendra Somani, president of the Hotels and Restaurants’ Association (HRA) – Gujarat. “The announcement of the Olympics, once made, will further accelerate new hotel developments.”
Two additional properties by different groups are also in the process of launching along SP Ring Road. The Adani Group is in discussions about launching ‘Aerocity‘ at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International (SVPI) airport in Ahmedabad, which will include hotels, a convention center, retail spaces, entertainment, and healthcare facilities, with a proposed investment of Rs 1,500 crore.
