Ahmedabad: A minor involved in a hit-and-run accident in Ahmedabad’s Bopal area, which resulted in the death of a 34-year-old security guard, was released by the Juvenile Justice Board to appear for an exam. Meanwhile, police have launched a manhunt for his absconding father, a builder, who has been named as a co-accused.
The accident occurred on Saturday night, with the minor, driving a Mercedes, fleeing the scene after hitting the guard, Govind Singh, who was on duty at Shashwat Apartments. Police seized the car and presented the 17-year-old boy before the Juvenile Justice Board on Tuesday, but he was released because of upcoming exams, as per Superintendent of Police (SP) Om Prakash Jat.
The FIR claims the boy was speeding when he lost control and hit the guard. The police are also awaiting blood test results to check if the minor was intoxicated during the incident. The victim was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead.
The police traced the vehicle using CCTV footage and later added the boy’s father to the FIR under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicle Act, holding him accountable for allowing a juvenile to drive. Multiple teams are currently searching for him.
