Ahmedabad: With ambitions of hosting the 2036 Olympics, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is drafting a visionary document, “Vision Ahmedabad 2036,” aimed at transforming the city’s sports infrastructure. As part of this plan, the AMC is seeking proposals from consultants to help create a robust strategy to ensure Ahmedabad is prepared to welcome elite athletes from around the globe.

This initiative aligns with the state government’s broader efforts to develop sports infrastructure across AMC and AUDA regions. Two international consultants have already been appointed to guide the project.

Vision for 2047 and Beyond

To support India’s Olympic aspirations, the AMC will develop a comprehensive city plan addressing not only sports but also vital infrastructure such as roads and public transport. This plan extends to 2047, in line with the national “Viksit Bharat 2047” initiative, focusing on long-term urban challenges, particularly in transportation and traffic management. Proposals from two international firms have been received, with a final selection pending. Once chosen, the AMC will collaborate with the firm to implement transformative projects for the city.

State-of-the-Art Sports Venues

The AMC envisions building world-class sports venues meeting Olympic standards, designed to host major global events like the Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. These venues will be part of an integrated sports precinct, while various sports enclaves will be established throughout the city. Upgrading existing infrastructure and constructing new facilities are central to this long-term strategy to position Ahmedabad as a major international sports hub.

A Forward-Thinking Approach

The “Vision Ahmedabad 2036 and Viksit Bharat 2047” initiative will anticipate future global and economic trends, suggesting key policy reforms and infrastructure priorities. The AMC will outline both short-term and long-term projects to be executed over the next decade.

Focus Areas

The Viksit Bharat 2047 plan will emphasize essential areas contributing to the city’s growth: urban livability, industrial and commercial investment, heritage, culture, education, health, climate resilience, sports, and improved connectivity. Urban planning will take center stage, with an emphasis on transportation, logistics, manufacturing, social services, energy, climate change, and technology—creating a future-ready Ahmedabad.
