Ahmedabad: In a recent review of Ahmedabad’s CCTV networks, police identified 746 cameras tampered with around the Diwali period, raising security concerns. “We are investigating the tampering to determine the motive, especially with many residents away on holiday trips,” stated a senior police official.
This information emerged during the November 7 review of the Nirbhaya Ahmedabad Safe City Project. The meeting highlighted citizen security initiatives, focusing on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) findings from October 31 to November 7. While some positive outcomes were noted, the report raised concerns, particularly about CCTV tampering.
The ICT report also recorded 616 traffic congestion incidents pre-Diwali, challenging police as many Traffic Response Battalion (TRB) personnel were on leave. Navrangpura saw the highest wrong parking cases, with Swati Society leading (1,468 cases) followed by Shyamal Crossroads (1,290), all forwarded to the traffic department.
Emergency Call Box (ECB) usage was highest in the Delhi Darwaja area (9 times), followed by Chandkheda’s Vegetable Market (7) and Gujarat University (6), where high student presence raised additional concerns.
The One City app, promoted for women’s and elderly safety, was used 2,890 times from October 31 to November 6, with 1,890 Android and 1,000 iOS users accessing it.
