Ahmedabad News: Age Limit for Free Travel in BRTS Buses Reduced; Disabled Citizens Also to Benefit
The Ahmedabad city administration has made an important decision regarding free travel for senior citizens in BRTS buses. The age limit for availing free rides has been reduced, allowing more seniors to benefit. Alongside this, disabled (divyang) passengers will also be eligible for free travel on city buses.
Free Travel for Citizens Aged 65 and Above in BRTS
As per available information, the age limit for senior citizens to travel free in BRTS buses has been reduced from 75 years to 65 years. This means that citizens aged 65 and above can now travel free of cost in BRTS buses.
Previously, disabled individuals were required to pay 40% of the fare to obtain a travel pass. Now, they too will be able to travel free on city buses. Both senior citizens and disabled passengers will be required to renew their passes annually.
There have been multiple incidents of negligence by city bus drivers in Ahmedabad, often leading to accidents. In the last four years alone, around 792 complaints have been registered against BRTS drivers. According to available data, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation is expected to recruit approximately 2,500 new employees as part of an upcoming hiring initiative.
