Ahmedabad: Gujarat’s Minister of State for Transport, Harsh Sanghavi, inaugurated 20 new high-tech Volvo buses for the Gujarat State Road Transport Service (GSRTC) from Gandhinagar Bus Station on Thursday, claiming that these buses are equipped with fire safety systems on par with those found in Air Force aircraft and Navy submarines.
Sanghavi described the buses as the safest in the country, ushering in a new era in public transport. According to a government statement, eight buses will operate between Ahmedabad and Surat, another eight will run on the Ahmedabad-Vadodara route, and four will serve the Ahmedabad-Rajkot route.

The buses are equipped with advanced safety features, including a fire detection and alarm system, a fire detection and suppression system, and a fire detection and protection system. In the event of a fire or smoke, nitrogen gas and two 250-litre water tanks will activate sprinkler technology to safely guide passengers out of the bus.
For the safety of women, an emergency button is installed, allowing them to alert the nearest police station if needed. The buses also feature 47 leather pushback seats, CCTV cameras, mobile charging ports, LED televisions, hatches with exhaust fans, and emergency exit doors, among other amenities.
