Jamnagar: Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani is set to build the world’s largest data center in Jamnagar, Gujarat, according to Bloomberg. This landmark project aims to bolster India’s rapidly advancing artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities and strengthen its digital infrastructure.

The data center will play a crucial role in enhancing India’s competitiveness in the global AI landscape. To support this initiative, Reliance is strategically investing in AI technologies by reportedly procuring advanced semiconductors from leading AI technology developer NVIDIA.

In October 2024, at the NVIDIA AI Summit, Reliance and NVIDIA announced a partnership to develop AI infrastructure in India. As part of this collaboration, NVIDIA will provide Reliance with its cutting-edge Blackwell AI processors for the planned one-gigawatt data center.

During the summit, NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang emphasized the importance of India developing its own AI ecosystem. Mukesh Ambani highlighted India’s potential to lead in AI and digital technologies, stating that, besides the US and China, India has the best digital connectivity infrastructure.

Key Details About the Jamnagar Data Center

    • Location: Jamnagar, Gujarat.
    • Scale: It will be the largest data center in the world, with a planned capacity of one gigawatt.
    • Technology: Equipped with NVIDIA’s Blackwell AI processors, ensuring cutting-edge capabilities.
    • Significance: The project aligns with India’s national strategy to accelerate digital and AI development through significant investments.

    Reliance Industries Financial Growth

Reliance Industries reported a strong financial performance in its third-quarter results, with a 12% year-on-year rise in consolidated net profit, reaching ₹21,930 crore as of December 31. This growth was driven by robust performance across its digital services, retail, and oils-to-chemicals businesses.

This data center initiative marks another step in Reliance’s efforts to lead India’s digital transformation and AI development.
