Ahmedabad, Surat: Over 500 Suspected Bangladeshis Detained Amid Security Alert

Following the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the Gujarat government has heightened its security measures. Authorities have launched crackdowns in various regions to identify and detain foreign nationals suspected of illegal stay, particularly from Pakistan and Bangladesh.

According to reports, over 500 suspected Bangladeshi nationals have been detained during raids in Ahmedabad and Surat, including both men and women. Of these, more than 400 were held in Ahmedabad and over 100 in Surat. These individuals are currently undergoing verification of their documents.

In Ahmedabad, those detained have been taken to Kankaria Football Ground for further processing.

    Verification of Documents Underway

As per information, six special teams have been deployed for this operation. The police are checking all documents to confirm the identity and nationality of the detainees. In Surat, the raids reportedly took place in areas like Sachin, Unn, Lal Gate, and Limbayat.

Initial investigations revealed that some detainees even possessed valid Aadhaar cards issued by the Indian government. In Ahmedabad, over 400 people were detained from the Chandola Lake area, suspected to be Bangladeshi nationals.

    Late-Night Action by Police

The operation was reportedly part of a directive issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, instructing states to identify and deport Pakistani nationals within 48 hours. It is during this process that the suspected Bangladeshis were discovered.

Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi had earlier issued a warning to Pakistani nationals as well.

The Ahmedabad Crime Branch, along with units like SOC, EOW, and Zone 6 Headquarters, led the operation against foreign infiltrators. During the combing, over 400 suspected Bangladeshis were apprehended.
