Jammu: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday instructed top security officials to deliver a strong response against terrorism and its supporters in Jammu amid a recent surge in terrorist attacks. At a high-level meeting, Shah emphasized the need to prevent any resurgence of terrorism in the union territory.

Shah directed security agencies to implement the Area Domination Plan and Zero Terror Plan in Jammu. He also called for comprehensive security arrangements ahead of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, scheduled from June 29 to August 19.

The Home Minister, in his third term, urged officials to ensure the safety of all pilgrims, routes, and key locations, including Vaishno Devi and Shivkhori. He directed the deployment of additional security forces along highways and stressed the importance of human intelligence in tracking active terrorists and their supporters. Shah also ordered the closure of all infiltration points in the Valley used by foreign terrorists.

The meeting included National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha, Army Chief General Manoj Pande, Army Chief-designate Lt. General Upendra Dwivedi, Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Director of Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka, Director General of CRPF Anish Dayal Singh, Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police RR Swain, and other top security officials.

This meeting followed a recent decision by the Centre to confiscate properties of terrorist supporters in Jammu, similar to actions taken in Kashmir. It was also decided that cases would be registered against these supporters under serious charges, and a list of terrorist sympathizers would be created. Consideration is being given to denying government jobs to family members of terrorist supporters. Prime Minister Narendra Modi subsequently directed officials to deploy the “full spectrum of counter-terror capabilities.”

Recently, terrorist attacks occurred in Reasi, Kathua, and Doda districts of Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of nine pilgrims and a CRPF jawan, with seven security personnel and several others injured. Two suspected Pakistani terrorists were killed in an encounter in Kathua, where a significant cache of arms and ammunition was recovered.
