Mahakumbh 2025: Ensuring Safety for Over 45 Crore Devotees

The Prayagraj police have implemented extensive security measures to ensure the safety of the 45 crore attendees anticipated at Mahakumbh 2025, a grand event held every 12 years. The event is scheduled from January 13 to February 26.

Security Framework

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath directed the establishment of a robust security framework around Prayagraj and its key routes. In response, the Uttar Pradesh Police, led by DGP Prashant Kumar, has introduced a multi-layered security system, dubbed the “impenetrable security chakravyuh.”

Highlights of Security Measures:

• Circular Security System: 102 checkpoints established along seven critical routes, involving vehicle and individual frisking.
• Manpower Deployment: Over 40,000 personnel, including cybercrime experts, 71 inspectors, 234 sub-inspectors, and 645 constables, are deployed.
• Advanced Surveillance: AI-powered cameras (2,700 units) and underwater drones (113 units) provide 24/7 monitoring.
• Technology Integration: Vajra vehicles, 10 drones, and four anti-sabotage teams ensure vigilance.

Collaboration and Mock Drills

The police have conducted mock drills in partnership with the state Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), National Security Guard (NSG), and Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) to prepare for any contingencies.

Key Dates and Significance

Mahakumbh, a once-in-12-year celebration, will host its main bathing rituals (Shahi Snan) on auspicious dates:

• January 14: Makar Sankranti
• January 29: Mauni Amavasya
• February 3: Basant Panchami

The event draws millions to the Sangam—the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati. With such extensive planning and resources, the Uttar Pradesh Police aim to ensure a safe and seamless experience for all attendees.
