Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for various projects totaling ₹15,400 crore in Kolkata. This marks his second visit to West Bengal within five days as part of his 10-day tour covering 12 states and union territories (UTs).

Here is a list of projects PM Modi inaugurated in Kolkata, West Bengal:

    1. Inauguration of the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section of Kolkata Metro’s East-West corridor, marking India’s first venture into underwater Metro services. The 4.8-km stretch was built at a cost of ₹4,965 crore, featuring the deepest Metro station in India at Howrah, 30 meters below ground level. The corridor aims to connect key areas such as the IT hub Salt Lake Sector V.
    2. Flagging off train services for the Kavi Subhash-Hemanta Mukhopadhyay and Taratala-Majerhat Metro sections, focusing on improving urban mobility.
    3. Dedication to the nation of Pune Metro’s stretch from Ruby Hall Clinic to Ramwadi.
    4. Inauguration of Kochi Metro Rail Phase I Extension project (Phase IB) from SN Junction Metro station to Tripunithura Metro station.
    5. Dedication to the nation of Agra Metro’s stretch from Taj East Gate to Mankameshwar.
    6. Inauguration of the Duhai-Modinagar (North) section of Delhi-Meerut RRTS Corridor.

PM Modi is also expected to address a public rally in Barasat, North 24 Parganas district, later in the afternoon.

PM Modi’s last visit to Bengal

During his last visit to West Bengal, PM Modi addressed rallies in Hooghly’s Arambagh and Nadia’s Krishnanagar. In his speeches, he criticized the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government, particularly addressing the issue of “atrocities on women” in Sandeshkhali. PM Modi urged the people to ensure TMC’s defeat in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

Additionally, PM Modi had a meeting with Mamata Banerjee at Raj Bhavan in Kolkata, which the chief minister referred to as a “courtesy meeting” following the protocol.
