Monsoon Update: States like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha have started receiving rainfall as the monsoon advances. Meanwhile, the remaining parts of Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Bihar, along with some regions of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, are expected to see rainfall in the next two to three days. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for heavy rainfall in Kerala and Karnataka for June 23 and 24 due to the active monsoon in southern India.
Red Alert for Heavy Rainfall in Kerala and Karnataka
The IMD has issued a red alert for several parts of Kerala on June 23 and 24. Previously, a red alert was issued in Malappuram district, with an orange alert for seven other districts.
“Kerala & Mahe are very likely to receive isolated heavy (64.5-115.5 mm) to very heavy rainfall (115.5-204.4 mm) and extremely heavy falls (>204.4 mm) on June 23 and 24. From June 25 to 27, isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected,” stated the IMD in a post on X.

Several parts of Karnataka are also likely to witness isolated heavy rainfall. The IMD has issued a red alert for south interior Karnataka.
“Coastal Karnataka is very likely to get isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall and extremely heavy falls on June 23 and 24, with continued heavy to very heavy rainfall expected from June 25 to 27,” the IMD posted on X.

Advancement of the Southwest Monsoon
The southwest monsoon is actively progressing and is expected to cover the entire country in the coming days. According to the IMD’s Sunday bulletin, the monsoon has advanced into more parts of the Arabian Sea, Gujarat, remaining parts of Maharashtra, and parts of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Jharkhand.
Favorable conditions are expected for the monsoon to advance further into parts of Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal over the next three to four days.
Rainfall in Delhi and Noida
On Sunday, heavy rainfall in several parts of Delhi and Noida brought relief from humidity and high temperatures. The Regional Meteorological Centre forecasts cloudy weather with light rainfall and thunderstorms for Delhi on June 24.
