Lok Sabha 2024: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated or laid the foundation stone for 15 airport projects nationwide on Sunday, with a combined value exceeding Rs 9,800 crore.

These projects encompass the construction of 12 new terminal buildings for airports in Pune, Kolhapur, Gwalior, Jabalpur, Delhi, Lucknow, Aligarh, Azamgarh, Chitrakoot, Moradabad, Shravasti, and Adampur, according to a report by PTI news agency.

As part of the airport projects inaugurated or initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, each airport now boasts a new terminal building. Notably, the existing Terminal 1 at Delhi airport underwent expansion to enhance its capacity and accommodate a larger number of passengers.

PM Modi initiated the foundation stone laying ceremony for three new terminal buildings at Kadapa, Hubballi, and Belagavi airports.

According to the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the 12 new terminal buildings, upon completion, will collectively accommodate 620 lakh passengers annually, and with the addition of the three new terminals, the airports will have the capacity for 95 lakh passengers per year.

These terminals feature advanced passenger amenities and sustainability elements like double-insulated roofing, energy-saving canopies, and LED lighting. The airport designs draw inspiration from the heritage structures of the respective states and cities to reflect local culture and heritage.

Inaugurating the new terminal virtually from Azamgarh, PM Modi emphasized that this initiative aims to make air travel more accessible for the common citizens of the country. He also highlighted that the construction of the new Gwalior airport terminal was completed in 16 months.

Additionally, the Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for five major National Highway projects worth Rs 11,500 crore and 12 railway projects across Uttar Pradesh valued at Rs 8,200 crore.

In a comprehensive move, PM Modi inaugurated development projects surpassing Rs 42,000 crore nationwide.

Accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and fellow BJP leaders, he visited Azamgarh district, where the projects were launched, and addressed a rally.
