Cricket: Dinesh Karthik showcased his prowess as a finisher once again for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, leading them to a vital 4-wicket victory against Punjab Kings. Despite his recent stint in commentary during the India vs England Test series, Karthik seamlessly transitioned back to the IPL arena and delivered outstanding performances in the finisher’s role during the initial two matches.

The experienced wicketkeeper-batsman showcased his prowess by smashing 28 runs* off just 10 balls, including three fours and two sixes. In a crucial moment when the tide seemed to favor Punjab after Virat Kohli’s departure, Karthik took charge and steered Royal Challengers Bengaluru to victory. With 10 runs needed from the final over, Karthik alleviated the pressure by hitting a six off the first ball from Arshdeep Singh. Singh then conceded a wide on the following delivery, and on the second legal ball, the seasoned RCB player sealed the win with a boundary.

Former New Zealand cricketer Simon Doull lauded Karthik’s composure during the match, likening it to the finishing style of MS Dhoni.

“In such high-pressure situations, it’s crucial to maintain your calmness. That’s where players like Dinesh Karthik shine, drawing from their experience and understanding the bowler’s strategy. It’s reminiscent of the approach taught by MS Dhoni,” Doull remarked on Cricbuzz.

Expanding on Karthik’s innings, Doull emphasized the significance of prolonging the chase to increase pressure on the opposition bowlers.

“By extending the innings as a batting side, you add more pressure on the bowlers, regardless of the required run rate. Even when facing a daunting target, like needing 36 runs off three overs, keeping the chase alive puts immense pressure on the bowlers. Karthik identified his areas and remained composed, despite some inconsistencies in the bowling and field placements. It’s a testament to his cool demeanor under pressure,” Doull elaborated.
